Newcastle United Squad Depth Pleases Alan Pardew - Sky Tyne and Wear

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew thinks his squad is now strong enough to move up the Premier League and bid for UEFA Europa League glory.

The Magpies are six points clear of the relegation zone following Sunday's 4-2 win at home to Southampton and next week they travel to Russia for the first leg of a Europa League last-16 tie.

With important league games either side of that match, Pardew expects to change his line-up but he does not see that as a problem, having strengthened his squad in the transfer window.

The bench against Southampton contained the likes of Sylvain Marveaux, James Perch, Shola Ameobi and Vurnon Anita; a huge contrast from earlier in the season.

Midfielder Cheick Tiote also thinks Newcastle are going to be climbing the table over the course of the rest of the season.

"This has really helped us. I think we will all be able to work well together and I think we have a great chance to win a lot of games.

"We're happy with the squad we have here. Everybody gets on well and we are looking forward to the rest of the season. Things are looking a lot stronger and everybody must fight for their place.
