While they have showed signs of their best in the Bundesliga - the recent win over Greuther Furth and the 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen spring to mind - their Champions League run has been absolutely phenomenal.
Roman Weidenfeller has been a mountain in goal, Marcel Schmelzer proved himself an unlikely hero, Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic have been as solid as ever and Marco Reus has slotted in seamlessly since his move from Gladbach, but others have shone even more.
Below, in alphabetical order, are Goal.com's three nominees for Dortmund's player of the season. Who do you think has been their standout man? Leave your comments below!
The 20-year-old has been absolutely key in his side's run on the continent, orchestrating the team's brilliant performances in the draws against Real Madrid and Manchester City, along with the victories over Ajax in Amsterdam and Shakhtar in Germany.
Gotze's performances this season belie his tender age and it is certain that he will be among the best in years to come.
Even the January re-signing of Sahin, the hero of 2011, has not dulled his progress. Dortmund are simply not the same without him and hold an appalling record without the Germany international gracing the centre of the park with his hard work and superb range of passing.
The 22-year-old has recently stated his intention to sign a new deal with the club, which will be welcome news to everyone associated with BVB.
That people doubted his value to the team less than two years ago when Lucas Barrios was still the top dog seems like madness. The Polish striker has always been there when BVB needed him this season, leading their scoring charts in both the league and the Champions League.
With great positioning, tireless running and lethal finishing, whichever club he ends up at next season will have a hell of a player on their hands.
