Next installment of the UFC's truth show, The Ultimate Mma star, will land on Fox Sports 1 this September and feature both males and females competing for UFC plans.
That bit of information and facts, we already knew. What we don't know is with certainty if Ronda Rousey and Snake Zingano, the two motor coach buses, will be able to obtain TUF out of the rut it is apparently in and into the other level of entertainment.
What does the "next level" entail? Essentially, a show that will becomes "must-watch television". I believed Jon Jones together with Chael Sonnen were about to create a new-found buzz for TUF, but even that decreased once word got available weren't really any fireworks happening between Sonnen and Jones within the taping of the demonstrate. Even Uriah Hall couldn't sustain excitement for the cast before the finale, and his loss to help you Kelvin Gastelum doused his expectations a tad.
Now TUF is going to enjoy one heck of a shot to recapture most of the buzz it once previously had during its first several seasons. Pitting two female coaches against 1 and announcing the show are going to have male and female fighters may be something the UFC is performing as a last-ditch effort for the series before they tidbit it altogether and create an entirely different idea for the show.
Imagine if it was eventually announced that the two coaches were planning to be another matchup associated with UFC vets. Let's declare Rashad Evans coaching against Dan Henderson. Although together fighters are well-known together with respected, it would have been a catastrophic decision for any show because it could not have given the show an opportunity to become great again. And it was great at one time, mostly due to the truth that we couldn't believe everyone were getting actual MMA fights for the major cable channel; but who was back in 2005.
Producers must be more innovative than at any time nowadays to capture some sort of audience and keep them within a season. The first thing Hopefully they fix, which they still might not, is having the show play for a three-hour delay on this west coast. Surely with technology we have today there can be some way to hold the show broadcast live coast-to-coast. Concerning FX, and other networks this delay their shows in the west coast, the problem is dropping into normally scheduled programming what a very important source from advertising revenue.
My gut feeling is that this upcoming season of TUF isn't travelling to be any more prosperous than their previous efforts. Rousey has captured as much attention as any UFC fighter in the history of the internet marketing, but I don't necessarily believe she has brought in as much of a "new" audience that this UFC and media would lead person to believe.
If you were to travel around and ask 10 people at random who Ronda Rousey is usually, I'd be very surprised if more than 3 to 4 of them gave the precise answer. Then again, the same could probably be said for almost everyone else in the activity. Heck, go ask 10 random people who Anderson Silva is and you'll get the same, if not worse, response.
The UFC will work a good job of having people excited for TUF 18 and Fox will no doubt put forth a huge effort in marketing their particular new channel. I just don't know what else is possible to give TUF a breath of clean air. Moving to FX couldn't practice it, promoting live fights each and every Friday fell flat and now mixing persons in the same show looks the next idea.
There are roads the UFC takes in their filming associated with TUF 18. If shock as to doesn't take TUF to the following level (and I don't think it will), then need not surprised if the UFC looks to scrap TUF altogether.
