Chelsea holds clutch make an impression on Fulham - FOXSports.com

UpdatedAApr 17, 2013 7:04 PM ET A stunning hit from David Luiz set Chelsea on the solution to an emphatic 3-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage. The deadlock was opened by the Brazilian with a 35-yard energy before a goal was scored by John Terry in each half as Chelsea showed defenders were the best form of attack from the Cottagers. The house side showed plenty of good touches in the overall game however the quality came from the Blues and they are taken by the three points over their west London rivals above Arsenal in to next. Bryan Ruiz may have opened the scoring inside three minutes when he nearly locked onto a Sascha Riether corner, while Giorgos Karagounis also fizzed an attempt just over the bar early on. But just as Rafael Benitez's part appeared to be in passive mood, Luiz walked out from the straight back on the half-hour mark to unleash an excessive attack that had Mark Schwarzer grasping at thin air. The goal did little to improve the pattern of play with Fulham experiencing significant ownership as Petr Cech saved well from Urby Emanuelson before Dimitar Berbatov drilled only wide of the post. But Chelsea were the more scientific aspect and Frank Lampard - after both were overlooked of the FA Cup semifinal restored to the staff with Terry - quickly bothered Schwarzer with a strong free-kick. From the resultant part, Juan Mata looped a combination in from the best and Terry did well to take away onto Philippe Senderos and climb above his opponent to head in at Schwarzer's near post. That saw Chelsea go in two-goals up at the interval and while Martin Jol's side tried to discover a second-half response, with Mladen Petric spurning two chances, the next goal killed the overall game down. With 20 minutes to play, a corner was flicked by Fernando Torres on at the near post and Terry was there ahead of Riether to drive the ball over the line and seize his second goal of the overall game. As they make an effort to build on this victory and secure a top-four position this time there was no reaction from Fulham and Benitez was even ready to withdraw some of his overworked people.
