Stefan Effenberg says Jose Mourinho has told him he has "great respect" for Borussia Dortmund, after Real Madrid were driven with the German team in the semifinals of the Champions League. The two sides faced one another in the group stages of the opposition, with BVB getting four points off the reigning Liga champion, following a 2-1 win at Signal Iduna Park and 2-2 bring away at the Santiago Bernabeu. Since that time both sides have already been cut adrift inside their respective leagues, with Dortmund dethroned as winner by Bayern Munich and Madrid set to submit its crown to Barcelona, despite a greater function of form in the second half the period. And with the 2 clubs set to complete battle again on the trunk of Friday's Champions League draw in Switzerland, Effenberg revealed Mourinho's appreciation for his European opponent. "I talked to Mourinho a few weeks back," the former Germany midfielder told Sky Sports News. "He explained that he has great value for Dortmund. Dortmund have nothing to get rid of and if have already achieved an awful lot. Should they beat Real that could be absolutely fabulous. "Dortmund will be the underdog for the link, however they have shocked all of us. True are stronger than in the group levels, but Dortmund are capable of beating them." Bayern Munich was coupled with Barcelona in the other semifinal tie and after suggestions FCB might call upon coach-to-be and former Blaugrana employer Pep Guardiola for advice, Effenberg has moved to dismiss that idea. He added: "There is likely to be no call to Pep. Jupp Heynckes is experienced enough to know what direction to go. "Barca have a little advantage, but Bayern Munich are extremely powerful. It's crucial Bayern do not cover and they can not focus almost all their efforts on Messi - you can't completely turn fully off a new player like Messi".
