West Brom boss Steve Clarke today admitted the club's future plans are already in gear – but this season won't be sacrificed as a result.
Clarke and his back-room staff are gearing up for a big summer during which personnel changes are inevitable at the Hawthorns.
The Hawthorns head coach said his plans are already well advanced, but Saturday's home defeat to Arsenal raised fears of a mid-table fade-out over the final month.
He said: "Next season is always in your thoughts and you're always looking, watching games and players and thinking 'it would be good if we could get him.'
"You are always looking at your team and seeing how and where you can improve it. I spend a lot of time watching over games.
"I wanted a cup run and we didn't get that, and I want 50 points and if I don't get that I'll be disappointed as well. I do disappointed quite well!
"The next target after that is to beat the points total and we've not quite done that yet. We need to do that. There is plenty to play for."
Clarke is particularly keen that his team win at least twice more at the Hawthorns – that would see them hit the 50-point mark as a reward to supporters this season.
One more home win would be a club best for the Premier League and Clarke felt there was enough in Saturday's performance to erase any accusations his players are already planning their holidays.
He added: "I don't think you can say we took it easy against Arsenal or we didn't show a determination to get something from the game.
"At 2-0 down it would have been easy to switch off but we didn't. We kept going and tried to get back in it, we created a number of really good chances that fell to people who normally score them.
"I can't guarantee results but I can guarantee in every game between now and the end of the season the team will have a go.
West Brom lynchpin Jonas Olsson has dropped another major hint that he is happy to extend his stay at the Hawthorns.
