Manchester City progress government Patrick Vieira has defended Samir Nasri at the end of a chastening group plan for the Frenchman. Nasri has found the web only once in the top-flight this year and has been unable to hold down a position in the starting lineup, drawing criticism from boss Roberto Mancini. However, after some better features - including a target against Chelsea in the FA Cup semifinal, Vieira contends that Nasri still represents a key in the setup at the Etihad Stadium and states that the midfielder would have been a better player next year. "All of the issues have possibly sullied the picture of the player, but, he remains an important player for City and the France national team," he told RMC. "The insults are unacceptable. I hope he will stay even if he'd a tough year. Samir is in his position the best players. Samir may do a lot more this season. "He is disappointed with his level but he remains fundamental to the dressing room. I view it everyday, he learned a whole lot. He'll be much more resilient next year."
