Tears of alleviation for Manuel in NFL draft 1st circular

NEW YORK (AP) a EJ Manuel told himself he was not going to cry. But then he heard his name called and considered all his family has gone through to arrive at this moment, if the Florida State star became the first quarterback picked in this year's NFL draft. His mother, Jackie, is in remission from breast cancer, he said. She's still undergoing radiation therapy but is straight back at the office. "Her hair keeps growing back; she is needs to seem like herself," Manuel said. "I am just happy right now." The Buffalo Bills got Manuel with the 16th pick a ' the only quarterback selected in the first round. One of many first people to hug Manuel was West Virginia's Geno Smith, a well known forecast to function as the first QB picked. As an alternative, Smith wasn't used the initial round at all. The 2 have known one another since 10th grade. "That says a lot about Geno's character," Manuel said. This was when the Jets got Chad Pennington 18th, the latest the initial QB went since 2,000. Since that time, a quarterback had been selected with the first over all pick 10 times in 12 years. Over that span, an average of not exactly three QBs have now been drawn in the first round every year. Today Manuel will be the standard-bearer for the thing that was considered a weak school for quarterbacks. "I love having a on my shoulder," he explained.
