Czech starlet eyes Baggies loan - Clubcall

Vitesse Arnhem defender Tomas Kalas says West Brom could be the ideal stepping stone for him on his way to making the grade at Chelsea.

The 19-year-old Czech defender is on loan at the Eredivisie club from Stamford Bridge, but was watched by Baggies boss Steve Clarke earlier this month and is understood to be available for a loan at another Premier League side.Kalas can play at right back and in the centre of defence - which makes him an interesting option for the Baggies - who enjoy a good relationship with Chelsea."I'm not even the best player of Vitesse, how can I dream of Chelsea?" Kalas told Voetbal International. "You must come to your own club level, rise above and then look further."However, Kalas does not expect to be back at Arnhem to play next season."I still have an intermediate step. Somewhere at the top of Germany or France, or at a mid-table club in England. Somewhere like Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, Olympique Marseille, but also West Bromwich Albion. That would be ideal. The step from Vitesse to Chelsea is too big."Chelsea signed Kalas from Sigma Olomouc in 2010 for £600,000 - a huge sum for a 17-year-old who had made only a handful of senior appearances, but he played regularly in the side that reached the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup in 2011 before going out on loan last season. He won the Talent of the Year prize at the Czech football awards in February.
