Garnett at least weekly to miss with foot damage

WALTHAM, Mass. (AP) a Boston's Kevin Garnett is likely to miss at least per week with irritation in his left ankle since the Celtics exercise patience with their 36-year-old star. Instructor Doc Rivers, organizing his group for a run, said on Monday he does not think Garnett is likely to be out for the future. "I do not know very well what longterm is," Rivers said before exercise. "If you mean that he's not likely to play this year, no, I actually do not bother about that. But can games be missed four or five by him? Yeah, that's possible." Garnett sat out Saturday night's 110-106 loss at Memphis and will skip Tuesday night's home game from the Ny Knicks, Rivers said. The Celtics' busy stretch remains Wednesday night at Cleveland, Friday night at home against the Atlanta Hawks, Sunday night at New York and Monday at Minnesota. Boston common director Danny Ainge was not certain simply how much time Garnett would miss. "I believe it's not more than three days or it is actually a week," he said. "I may think fourteen days just because you want to make certain he is actually ready. We need to get him fresh anyway." Garnett's lack may possibly harm the Celtics chances to go up from the seventh position in the Eastern Conference standings, but Rivers needs Garnett to be as healthier as possible when he returns. "We are going to err on the best side," he explained. "If they give me an alternative of 'you can play him every third sport or give him two weeks rest,' I can tell you right now, I'm likely to say 'two weeks rest.'.. Since at the conclusion of the day, i'd like him right. I do not need him half right." Guard Courtney Lee, who missed the overall game from the Grizzlies with a left ankle, may possibly reunite on Tuesday night, Rivers said. Garnett and Lee both overlooked practice Monday. The health problems are the latest in a string of incidents that already have sidelined guards Rajon Rondo and Leandro Barbosa and forward Jared Sullinger for the summer season. Barbosa was dealt to the Washington Wizards after being hurt. "Kevin went down and Courtney Lee going down, sometimes it sort of wears on you mentally because that is pretty much how a year moved for us," Paul Pierce said. "Some way, somehow we've surely got to pick ourselves backup. It's been type of disastrous with the incidents up to now, but we've got to find a method to persevere and struggle through it." Tuesday's game could be a preview of a playoff collection, and Pierce thinks whipping the Knicks on Tuesday or Sunday a or both a' could deliver a message. "You get an opportunity to beat them a couple of more times, it certainly eliminates a team's confidence starting the playoffs and so that is surely got to be a little additional motivation," Pierce said. "They have already been playing well all through the year. They're along with the Atlantic Division. But today it's about going to the playoffs, picking up the pace." The Knicks (42-26) have won their last four games after losing four in a row. The Celtics (36-33) have dropped their last four, coordinating their next longest losing streak of the growing season. Boston has struggled on defense and Garnett's absence won't support. In three of the last four games, opponents have shot much better than 43.9 percent, the Celtics' field-goal defense for the season. Rivers knew that Garnett's absence vs. Memphis was planning to be considered a problem, particularly since it was Boston's next game in as much days. "Back-to-back (games), no Kevin, no Courtney, plenty of new people that were likely to play," he explained. "As a coach, you are just trying to find a way to win." Now the Celtics have had two days with no game, training on Monday and resting on Sunday, because they go into a stretch of five games in eight days. "We just have maybe not performed well lately," Rivers said. "We just have to get it back and having each one of these men in and out doesn't help, certainly. But everyone goes through it. New York experienced it out on the street where they'd most of the injuries and then they sort of gathered themselves and now they are earning again despite the fact that they still have injuries. "I think we're going to have to undergo that same thing right now."
